There are six taxi companies, who together put out over 28,000 taxis on the road. Taxis are a popular form of public transport as the fares are relatively cheap compared to many other developed countries.
ComfortDelGro, SMRT Taxis, TransCab, Silvercab and Prime Taxis allows flagdown and bookings.
While there are a small number of privately operated Yellow-Top taxis, their numbers are continually shrinking since no new private licenses have been issued since the 1970s, existing licenses are not transferable, and their holders have to retire at age 75.

As of January 2020, the MRT network encompasses 203 kilometres (126 mi) of route on standard gauge, with 122 stations in operation (27 of which are interchange stations), spread across six lines arrayed in a circle-radial topology.
There are more than 370 scheduled bus services, operated by SBS Transit, SMRT Buses, Tower Transit Singapore, and Go-Ahead Singapore.
